Whether or not an individual with a criminal record can obtain an SIA (Security Industry Authority) licence depends on the nature and severity of their criminal history, as well as their overall suitability for the role.
The SIA has a policy of considering each application on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the nature of the offence, the circumstances surrounding it, and the length of time that has passed since it was committed.
Generally, an applicant with a criminal record will be considered for an SIA license if:
It’s important to note that the SIA has the power to revoke a licence if an individual’s criminal record changes, or if their suitability for the role is called into question for any other reason.
It’s recommended to check with the SIA directly for specific information about your case and to also seek legal advice.
Examination results are made available online 10 to 14 business days after the test date. You will receive a notification via SMS and email when they are available for viewing. In the unlikely event of a delay, you will be kept informed of the status, and when the results will become available. We can only give you estimate dates of examination results.
Certificates for successful completion of the course are typically available 7 days after completion. If it has been more than 14 days since your results were published and you haven’t received your certificate, please get in touch with us. It is important to note that a certificate is not required to apply for an SIA licence.
You do not need to possess your certificate in order to apply for an SIA license. Upon passing the course, your information will be transmitted to the SIA.
Identity verification is a mandatory requirement for all security-related certifications. Candidates taking courses linked to a license are required to bring the following items with them on the day of the course:
It is important to consult the joining instructions, as other forms of documentation may also be accepted. Failure to bring the correct identification documents will prevent a candidate from sitting the exam, as it is a government requirement.
You can apply for your SIA license once you have successfully completed your course and the relevant information has been uploaded to the SIA portal.
The cost of the course does not cover the licence fee. The licence application fee of £190 must be paid directly to the SIA when applying for the license, which is valid for three years.
