Can I get an SIA Door Supervisor Licence with a criminal record?

Whether or not an individual with a criminal record can obtain an SIA (Security Industry Authority) licence depends on the nature and severity of their criminal history, as well as their overall suitability for the role.

The SIA has a policy of considering each application on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the nature of the offence, the circumstances surrounding it, and the length of time that has passed since it was committed.

Generally, an applicant with a criminal record will be considered for an SIA license if:

  • The conviction is spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974
  • It’s not relevant to the role they are applying for
  • The applicant can demonstrate that they are a fit and proper person to hold an SIA license

It’s important to note that the SIA has the power to revoke a licence if an individual’s criminal record changes, or if their suitability for the role is called into question for any other reason.

It’s recommended to check with the SIA directly for specific information about your case and to also seek legal advice.
